Gym Build

If you have never used one of these things your in for a treat, especially if your competitive and have someone to race against. I compare the workout to swimming because you get an all over workout. I can feel it in my back, arms and legs when I’m done.

The Rogue package I bought came with a Concept II rower. I did a little research prior to buying and in rowing circles the Concept rowers are considered the best on the market. Since I had never used one of these I was pretty excited to try it out. But before I could take it for a spin I had set it up. I initially spent an hour or so going over the manuals that came with the rower, something I rarely do. The manuals cover the basics but do not go into to much depth. They are pretty thick but that only because they have instructions printed in every conceivable language. So don’t expect to get a bunch of information out of them, because the English language section is pretty small. I guess they are relying on the fact that if you need more info you can visit their website. Sucks if you don’t have Internet I guess, but really who doesn’t.

** UPDATE - IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A LIST OF RECOMMENDED GEAR FOR YOUR GYM, CLICK HERE!!

Last Wednesday my Crossfit equipment finally arrived from Rogue Fitness, minus the kettle bells, which are being shipped directly from the manufacturer. On Tuesday I received a call telling me that my equipment would arrive some time the following day. They could not give a specific delivery time and said the driver could be there anytime on Wednesday. Mayra waited for the delivery all day while I was at work but it never showed; needless to say I was bummed. I was starting to think I might have gotten the delivery date wrong, so at 5:00 P.M. I called the delivery company. The operator took a while looking up my information then informed me that my package was still out for delivery.  GREAT!

Normally I’d get a little mad that I had to wait so long, but I couldn’t complain, there were no shipping charges and they had said my package could be delivered “anytime” on the delivery day. Around a half hour later I got a call from the driver that he’d be there in thirty minutes. I wasted no time, I put Montana on her bike and we went to the garage to wait. For the next twenty minutes I stood impatiently waiting, camera in one hand and my HTC Droid (for videos) in the other. I was so excited, wow! All my hard work selling on EBAY was about to pay off.  Finally I’d be able to do a complete Crossfit WOD.

I finally purchased the base equipment for the gym. After shopping around I found that Rogue Fitness had the best deal around. The package I purchased (Warrior CF-P) also came with free shipping; a deal I couldn’t pass up. The full setup is in transit as I type this and I have no clue as to when it will actually arrive, hopefully soon though.

The new gym is almost ready for the equipment. I moved the rest of the stuff  (Cabinets etc…) into the garage this morning. I also spent part of the morning installing a new shelf I bought at IKEA. It was pretty simple except for one snag, no screws, I had to use my own.

These are the photos of where I stand right now. I’m still trying to decide if I want to paint graphics on the wall or leave it as is.

The total space is 19’ X 12'. If I need additional space I’m going to clear an area in the garage, plus I plan on converting a space in the back yard for the gym as well.

Well I’m here to tell you that EBAY, for all it’s ups and downs has worked as promised. I’ve sold off most of the stuff in my garage that had been collecting dust and made a few bucks in the process. I’m still a couple hundred short for the equipment I need, but that’s because I over spent this month and had to dip into my gym fund. Of all the sales, I’ve only had one really bad experience, and that was with the sale of a vehicle. I had it sold and a guy backed out the last minute and never paid. Luckily this past week it finally sold and I’m back on track. That sale gave me the majority of the cash I needed to buy the equipment. Now I just need to get a couple hundred more to order my gear. I am planning on purchasing the “Warrior” package from Rogue Fitness. It seems to have all the equipment I’d need to get started and comes with free shipping; no one else seems to come close to what they offer for the price. I was really hoping to add their bench and squat rack as an option. It is cheaper when bought with the package, but it would cost another fiver hundred on top of the two hundred I am short, so I guess it will have to wait. This is what I accomplished this last week and plan on doing soon.

Well this last weekend I did some serious moving. I moved the baby room to the old workout room, moved the office to the old babies room and moved the home gym to the old office, if that makes sense. It was quite a mess as you can tell from the photos. I promise my stuff is not usually that un-organized.

Since the room for the new office was much smaller than the old one, I had to downsize. Thus began my mass cleanup effort, which also included making room in the garage and old office for the future gym. To make room, I new I had to get rid of a lot of things that had been sitting there collecting dust. On Friday night I began moving the rooms. Along the way I began making a pile of stuff I thought I could live without. When I was done moving the essentials I was shocked to see my “Stuff” pile had grown to monumental proportions, I realized I had collected more crap than I could have ever imagined. Next I began organizing the new office and babies’ room. I could live without a gym for a few days, heck I didn’t even have the equipment yet, but we couldn’t live without those two rooms.
