What’s been happening with my training and why I love the new Reebok CrossFit 2011 games site.

I’ve been talking with different athletes from different disciplines this past week. I spoke with a long distance runner about running, a power lifter about deadlifts etc. I figure that they are experts in their field and that any advice they could give couldn’t hurt. The runner, a well-accomplished athlete, gave me some great tips on increasing my distance and building my legs for coming downhill. Running is not my strong suit and since I absolutely hate it, any advice helps. The power lifter gave me a few tips on deadlifting, but said that it would be best if he could show me first hand. Hopefully we’ll be able to set a time soon for some one on one instruction. In addition I got a lot of information about deadlifts from a pretty cool website Dieselcrew.com . Someone named Mark posted a comment about deadlifts in a previous article I wrote and it peaked my interest, so I visited the site he recommended. I must say I really liked the site, it was pretty informative and one that I’ll check out often. I have yet to try the techniques I saw in the info videos posted on the site, but will as soon as the next WOD calls for deadlifts.

The 2011 ReeBok CrossFit Games site.

I checked out the new site for the games and it’s pretty cool. It’s simple to navigate and is pleasing on the eyes, gotta love the black and red color scheme, as you can tell by looking at Bilderz.com.  One of the things I thought was pretty cool was the “CrossFit Games Open Qualifiers” competition where you can upload a video of yourself doing a WOD and compete with others around the world, or compete at your affiliate. Plus the top 60 men and Women from the Open Qualifier, in each of the 17 worldwide regions, gets to compete in their respective regional events. This opens up the Reebok CrossFit games to a whole new group of competitors worldwide. Especially for those that aren’t affiliate members or those who can’t afford the cost of travel. I’m just hoping this is around next year because I plan on competing and this would be the perfect way to get my feet wet.
After I checked out the site for a bit I went to Ticket Master to price the tickets for this years games. To my surprise they were cheaper than last year, $50 bucks, that’s right $50 bucks and for a full three days. Which if my memory serves me was way cheaper than last year’s prices. Of course that might be because these were early bird prices, but who really cares, it’s $50 bucks!

So my plan was to wait a couple weeks then order mine. Then it was as if the skies split open and good fortune rained down on me. Dalay Acevedo, the owner of Las Playas e-mailed me that she would be catering for the games again this year and that since she’d be working; she’d save hers for me. So I guess I don’t have to order any, thanks Dalay. BTW if you live in the L.A area and want some authentic Mexican food you should really go try Las Playas in Bell, yum! (Gratuitous plug, but completely true.)

Anyway loved the site and the direction CrossFit is going. Guess I better get my butt in gear and start training harder because the 2012 games aren’t that far off. A guy can dream can’t he?

See you in the hills!
