Crossfit a good fit?

I must say, crossfit from what I've experienced so far is really intense. The workouts are hard and they have a huge support system on their website. I did some research this week to see what others are saying and it went from crossfit is great to it sucks. I really don't think any program sucks as long as people are getting fit and having fun. The problem that I personally have with crossfit is the equipment needed to do the workouts. Over the past week I've substituted most of the WOD exercises with others because I either don't have the equipment or just could not do the exercises (Hand Stand Pushups). Having a new baby and the whole economy thing, times are tough and I just can't afford to go buy the needed equipment right now. I really don't have the space if I did, to create the gym needed. Because of this I have decided to mix up the WOD's in with my normal weight training and cardio routine. I'm not doing this because I don't like crossfit or think it's ineffective, but because I just don't have the equipment to give it 100%. Hopefully this does not discourage others, You need to find the right program for you. There is no fit for everyone. If you like it, and stick with it you'll succeed. Lance

Day 4

The WOD today consisted of Back Squats…. Once again, a no go for me since all of my equipment consists of machines. Instead I substituted with a lot of dry squats, they were way painful. I also did another round on the elliptical, since I feel I need a whole lot more cardio each day to get rid of this belly of mine. I’ve decided to take my first set of progress photos on Saturday since I have more time during the weekend. I’m excited and also scared at the same time. I’m Sure I am in worse shape than last time I took progress photos. It seems like so long ago. I guess that’s what I deserve for stopping. I was doing so well. Although I just started doing the Crossfit workout, I’ve been doing cardio and hitting the weights for the last couple months. I guess it shows since I got a great compliment from my wife yesterday….. Thanks Mayra.

Day Off.... Not!

I saw the WOD an decided I needed a little Cardio today, so I did 20 min on an elliptical. I know I know it is against the Crossfitters creed, machines are no no, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. During the workout I got a little worried that maybe tomorrow will be super hard and I should have taken a rest day today, well its to late now. Can't wait until tomorrow to see what the WOD is. Day two !

This is gonna be short... Did my second WOD today, I'm super sore or should I say my legs are. It really sucked because I don't have all the equipment needed to do the exercises as listed, but I'm using the substitues. Todays WOD looked easy because of the number of reps, but it was tough. I don't think it's gonna get any easier. I need to look in the penny saver for some cheap free weights. Wish me luck in my search. Lance

First WOD

Anyone who does the crossfit WOD's are badasses in my book. I did my first WOD without weight and it killed me. It just goes to show how out of shape I'm in. A year ago, when I posted my workout progress photos I was doing great. Then Mayra found out she was pregnant and over the last year I just got way out of shape. Today before I started the workoutout I took a photo front and side to track my progress. Boy do I look like a fatass. Crazy thing is that I've been using our elliptical and hitting the weights for a couple months now. I have been showing progress and I thought I was farther along towards my goals but the photos don't lie. I can't even imagine what I looked like without my shirt two months ago, one word comes to mind - disgusting. Let me get back on track, the WOD kicked my butt. I did something called thrusts and had to substitute rowing with something called sumo something or other. Took me a while to navigate the crossfit site and find out what the exercises were. I started with just small dumb bells for the thrusts (I have no bar) these hurt real bad. Then finished with the Sumos with a straight stick (No rowing machine). The site said the sumos were a suitable rowing substitution. Well day one is gone, can't wait until day two. One more thing.... I read a post in the forum where a guy asked if he could add more to the workouts. I can tell you that if you do the exercises correctly you won't be able or want to do more. Lance

Crossfit ?

Well I've decided to try crossfit for the next six months or so. I don't have any of the equipment, as all of mine is weightlifting stuff (A Machine and a few small free weights), so I'll have to make do. I came across the Crossfit.com site while looking at various workout stuff. The workouts seem very hard, but you can start off easy. I already have a good muscle base from lifting for years, but you can't tell with all the fat covering the muscle. I wanted to try 90PX or whatever it's called but just didn't want to spend the money right now. If all goes well with crossfit and I'm able to stick with it, I might even get certified in it. WHAT THIS MEANS: Nothing really, I 100% stand by my workout schedule I've been doing for years (My diet sucks) but it does work, I just want to see what the crossfit hype is about. Plus wit will be cool to video my progress along the way. I gotta get in great shape for the WeEvil movie. Lance
