Today I made the trip that I have been planning for quite awhile. After last years Challenge I mentally made the decision to compete the following year. Of course at that time I had a lot less experience than I do now (Which doesn’t say much). I had yet to compete in my first “Open” and thought, “Man I could do that”. Of course the Open “Opened” my eyes to how far I really had to go if I ever wanted to “really” compete.  Although I’d been doing WOD’s for some time, and had made great strides in weight loss, and overall fitness, I was nowhere prepared to compete on any level. So for the next year I did everything in my power to improve, which included leaving my garage gym, visiting several Affiliates, and even taking a few OLY lifting courses. When you start from zero, you have a long way to go.

Did-you-reach-your-fitness-goals-in-2012

2013.png

2013 is almost here. Did you achieve your fitness goals in 2012? Did you even set any? For some reason I’ve been reflecting, or should I say brooding over how I wish I had accomplished so much more. My thoughts were all over the place “My snatch weight isn’t as high as I want it to be, damn!”  “I’m still a marginal runner.”, “I still don’t look like I could be on the cover of Men’s Fitness”, or that “My WOD times just aren’t on par with the “Elite” athletes out there”.

The importance of giving good information and feedback to your trainer.

b2ap3_thumbnail_Important1small.png

One of the hardest obstacles to overcome when offering fitness advice online is that you rarely, if ever, meet the person you’re giving advice to. If you do meet them, it’s usually only a casual encounter, and seldom in a training environment. In these situations you’re taking everything they tell you at face value, compiling that information, and giving your best assessment as to what will help them reach their goals.

Check your Fitness Personality Profile.

b2ap3_thumbnail_profilesmall2.png

I was speaking with Melany (who is in training for her first 5k) and of course the subject of her training came up. During the talk I explained the need to set additional future goals and that without them within two months of her finishing the 5k, she would be back to where she is now. “Only one goal at a time” I was told. “I know what works for me”. I tried to explain that she should at least be looking for a future goal, and I was shut down. Since my argument was going nowhere, I tried another tactic. An explanation of my Fitness Personality Profile and where she fit into it soon followed.

Have you ever been at a point in your life when you’ve used all your resources and knowledge, and things just aren’t working as you’ve envisioned? Sure, we all have. It’s at this point that we make a concerted effort to either look for help, seek additional knowledge to assist in our endeavors, or continue down our own path, which usually leads nowhere.

Get fit in seven minutes - A few times a week.

Working out doesn’t have to take all day like some people would have you believe. I can’t remember how many times people have told me that they spend hours in the gym each day.

Exercise helps find medical problems

Lets say you buy a Jeep, it’s all shiny and new, your first 4X4. At first you take care of it every day, you wash it, check the oil regularly and take it out for drives. You never take it off-road though and rarely drive it during the winter. You love your baby so much you rarely even get it above 25mph.
